Day 1
Dakar
On arrival at Hoedspruit Airport you will be met and transferred to the Makalali Private Game Reserve for your three night stay at MAKALALI MAIN LODGE. In the afternoon, you will be taken on a game drive where you may encounter lion, cheetah, wild dog, hippo, rhino or other wildlife. (L, D)

Day 2
Dakar and Goree Island
During the next two days, enjoy early morning game drives with your safari guide and tracker, returning to the lodge for breakfast and a relaxing morning before heading out after lunch for your afternoon game drive. (B, L, D)

Day 3
Dakar – Pink Lake – Saint-Louis
After your early morning game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Hoedspruit Airport for your flight to Johannesburg (at additional cost) where you will be met and taken to the HOLIDAY INN SANDTON HOTEL for your overnight stay. (B)

Day 4
Saint-Louis
This morning you will be taken on a tour of Soweto. Visit the Kliptown Open Air Museum and the Regina Mundi Church before visiting the Hector Pieterson Museum. See Mandela House and the Apartheid Museum. Afterwards, you will be transferred to OR Tambo Airport for your onward flight, which marks the end of your safari. (B, L)

Day 5
Saint-Louis – Touba – Kaolack
Today you will travel by road to Kaolack in the south of Senegal. En route you will visit the city of Touba. Here you will see the Grand Mosque and the tomb of the founder of Mouridism – Amadou Bamba, and learn about the city’s past. Continue to Kaolack, stopping at some local villages to learn about their daily life and customs. On arrival in Kaolack, you will visit the traditional hospital of Malango and an open-air market before heading to LE RELAIS DE KAOLACK for your overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 6
Kaolack – Sine Ngayène – Banjul
After breakfast you will travel to Sine Ngayène to see the renowned Stone Circles of Senegambia. The World Heritage Site features 52 circles of standing stones and are evidence of the prosperous society that would have once lived here. In the early afternoon you will continue to Banjul, the capital city of Gambia. Two-nights at COCO OCEAN RESORT & SPA. (B, D)

Day 7
Banjul
Today you will cruise up river from Banjul Port to the setting of Alex Haley’s famous saga, ‘Roots’. On arrival at the ancient Trading Station of Albreda, you will visit the ruins of Sao Domingo Church, one of the oldest churches in West Africa, before taking a short walk to the village of Juffureh, the birthplace of ‘Kunta Kinte’ of ‘Roots’. Visit the Kinte family home and the Museum of Slavery before taking a boat to James Island, returning to Banjul in the early evening. (B, D)

Day 8
Banjul – Ziguinchor
This morning you will be taken on a tour of Banjul, beginning at the National Museum. Continue through the city, stopping to visit the lively market and the main mosque. In the afternoon, visit Serrekunda which is Gambia’s most densely populated town. Stay two-nights at HOTEL KADIANDOUMAGNE in Ziguinchor. (B, D)

Day 9
Ziguinchor
After breakfast you will have an audience with the king of the Jola people who will welcome you into his palace located in the sacred forest in Oussouye. Discover the Jola culture before heading to the historical island of Karabane for lunch. (B, D)

Day 10
Ziguinchor – Bissau
Today you will cross the border into Guinea Bissau. Enjoy a city tour visiting the Museu Nacional, the Mercado (Central Market) and the Centro Artistico Juvenile where young artists showcase their work. Afterwards you will continue to the old Portuguese colonial centre of Bissau Velho. Three nights at HOTEL SEPTEMBRO. (B, D)

Day 11
Bissau – Quinhamel – Bissau
This morning you will drive along the Mar Azul (Blue Sea) to visit Quinhamel. Here you will visit a weaver’s workshop and the local market. (B, D)

Day 12
Bissau – Cacheu – Bissau
Today you will be taken to the town of Cacheu located in the north west of Guinea Bissau on the Cacheu River and once the official slave trading centre of the area. On arrival, you will either be taken on a guided city tour or a boat tour through the mangroves on the Cacheu River. (B, D)

Day 13
Bissau – Dakar – Conakry
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Dakar, and onward flight to Conakry; once known as the ‘Paris of Africa’. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to HOTEL PETIT BATEAU for your overnight stay. (B, D)

Day 14
Conakry – Dalaba
In the morning you will be taken on a tour of Mokebounyi and visit the Kindia market. You will then travel to Dalaba in Fouta Jalon sometimes referred to as the African Switzerland. Overnight at the SIB HOTEL DALABA. (B, D)

Day 15
Dalaba – Kindia
After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Dalaba where you will see the Presidential Palace. Afterwards you will visit Kinkon Falls in Pita. Overnight at HOTEL MASABI in Kindia. (B, D)

Day 16
Kindia – Le Voile de la Mariée – Conkary
Today you will be transferred back to Conkary. En route you will visit Le Voile de la Mariée (Bride’s Veil). The site consists of a beautiful waterfall with a natural swimming pool surrounded by the Valley of Labota. (B, D)

Day 17
Conkary – Freetown
After breakfast you will travel across the border to Freetown; the capital of Sierra Leone. Two nights at HOME SUITES BOUTIQUE HOTEL. (B, D)

Day 18
Freetown
This morning you will be taken on a tour of Freetown. In the afternoon you will visit the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Established in 1995, the sanctuary is committed to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and abandoned chimps. (B, D)

Day 19
Freetown – Bunce Island – Monrovia
Begin the day by visiting West Africa’s oldest university – the University of Sierra Leone, located on Mount Aureol. Following the visit, enjoy a short cruise to Brunce Island. In the late afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Monrovia. Two-nights at BELLA CASA. (B, D)

Day 20
Monrovia
After breakfast you will be driven to Gbarnga in Bong County. See the Kpatawee Waterfall and visit a tribal chief and his village to learn about the culture and history of local tribes. Return to Monrovia in the late evening. (B, D)

Day 21
Monrovia – Accra
Today you will enjoy a historical tour through Monrovia – the capital of Africa’s first independent republic. Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Accra, Ghana. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to LA VILLA BOUTIQUE HOTEL for your two-night stay. (B, D)

Day 22
Accra
Enjoy a full day tour of Accra and the surrounds. Highlights include Independence Square, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the historic neighbourhood of Jamestown, and Brazil House where you will learn about the Afro-Brazilian community of Ghana. (B, D)

Day 23
Accra – Kumasi
After breakfast you will be driven to Kumasi – the centre of the Ashanti Kingdom, with an en-route visit to the Bunso Arboretum which is home to over 120 species of bird and 200 varieties of herb. On arrival in Kumasi, you will be taken to the Centre for National Culture to discover more about the people of Ghana. Two nights at the GOLDEN BEAN HOTEL. (B, D)

Day 24
Kumasi (Akwasidae Festival)
This morning you will be taken on a tour of the Manhyia Palace Museum which was originally built as a residence for Ashanti Kings. You will then have the opportunity to join in the festivities of the Akwasidae Festival. Every 42 days, there is a colourful parade featuring the Asantehene (King of Ashanti) who comes out to be praised by his sub chiefs and his people. In the afternoon you will visit the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site. (B, D)

Day 25
Kumasi – Cape Coast
After breakfast you will begin the journey to Cape Coast, stopping to see the “Slave River” in Assin Manso en route. In the evening, head to the harbor to observe the colourful fishing boats and the locals bringing in their daily catch to the market. Overnight at COCONUT GROVE BEACH RESORT. (B, D)

Cape Coast – Accra
Today you will visit Kakum National Park which features a unique rainforest canopy walkway. Enjoy lunch at Hans Cottage before continuing to Accra where your tour of West Africa will be at an end. (B)
