South Africa Family Safari

Overview

There is nothing more exciting than an African safari, but even more so when shared by a family. Ideally suited for families, this safari offers outstanding opportunities to see animals, learn the history of South Africa and see the sights of Cape Town. Starting in Hazyview with a guided tour of the Panorama route and a chance to experience many activities, this safari continues onto Manyeleti Game Reserve which is a private reserve that borders the famous Kruger National Park. This is an excellent area to see lion, leopard, elephant, cheetah, giraffe as well as all the plains game and birds. The tour finishes in the beautiful city of Cape Town, with a chance to explore the city on the hop on/hop off bus.

Itinerary

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG – HAZYVIEW
This morning, you will fly from Johannesburg to Nelspruit Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to HIPPO HOLLOW where you will stay for the next three nights in accommodation that has private decks overlooking the Sabie River.

DAY 2: HAZYVIEW
This morning, you will be met by your private guide and taken on a full day Panorama Route tour, including lunch. The Sabie River Valley boasts a rich history and spectacular scenery. The tour continues through Graskop where you can enjoy the breathtaking sights of God’s Window, the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and Berlin and Lisbon Falls. (B, L)

DAY 3: HAZYVIEW
Today will be spent at leisure in Hazyview. Enjoy the many optional activities on offer such as hiking, quad biking, horse riding, visiting the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, Shangaan Tribal Village or Chimpanzee Eden. (B)

DAY 4: HAZYVIEW – MANYELETI GAME RESERVE
This morning you will be transferred to your luxury tented lodge in the bush. Comfortably accommodating families of four, all tents are protected with mosquito nets. An afternoon game drive will introduce you to the amazing game of this area. Three nights at HONEYGUIDE KHOKA MOYA TENTED CAMP. (L, D)

DAYS 5 – 6: MANYELETI GAME RESERVE
The next two days will be spent on game drives in open game viewing vehicles in the early morning and late afternoon / evening. Late afternoon and evening drives include sunset drinks, views over the Mohwareng Hills, and glimpses of nocturnal animals. Children of all ages are welcome at Khoka Moya. Special activities for children include beading and educational walks. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: MANYELETI GAME RESERVE – CAPE TOWN
This morning you will be transferred to Hoedspruit airport for your flight to Cape Town. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel located near the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Four nights at SOUTHERN SUN WATERFRONT. (B)

DAYS 8 – 10: CAPE TOWN
Three days are at leisure to enjoy the many activities in and around Cape Town, including Table Mountain, the famous Victoria & Alfred Waterfront area, the Cape of Good Hope, where the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans meet and the beautiful winery areas of Stellenbosch or Paarl. Included is a two day hop on/hop off bus tour on board an open-top, double-decker bus. Tours and activities can be pre-booked through African Travel Specialists. (B)

DAY 11: CAPE TOWN
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Cape Town Airport. This will mark the end of your safari. (B)

Hippo Hollow

Hippo Hollow is nestled amongst lush indigenous gardens on the outskirts of Hazyview and is only a 10-minute drive from the world-famous Kruger National Park. Hippo Hollow has 37 chalets and 54 courtyard rooms. The beautifully maintained gardens, with two swimming pools, are home to a wonderful variety of bird species, and the Sabie River attracts hippo, crocodiles, monkeys, waterbirds and even elephants. There is an Ă  la carte restaurant offering a variety of mouth-watering dishes and South African wines from the wine cellar.
