This grand 15-day journey offers an amazing insight into virtually every well-known destination in South Africa. Starting in Pretoria, this magnificent sojourn will spend the first few days taking guests through the Drakensberg Mountains to Nelspruit, the Kruger Park and the historical areas of Pilgrim’s Rest, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. Then it’s on to explore the Kingdom of Swaziland, Hluhluwe wildlife reserve and the world-heritage site, St Lucia Wetland Park. Day seven sees the train arriving in Durban where guests can feel the rhythm of Africa at PheZulu Safari Village.
Next, guests will enjoy city tours of Bloemfontein, the city of roses, Kimberley’s Diamond Mine Museum, and the historic town of Graaff Reinet. Later, you will arrive in Oudtshoorn to visit an ostrich farm and the incredible Cango Caves. Traversing the Outeniqua Mountains, the vehicles arrive in the natural paradise of Knysna where guests enjoy a lagoon ferry ride to Featherbed Nature Reserve followed by a spectacular meander along the Garden Route towards Ashton. On day 14, guests travel by road over scenic mountain passes to Hermanus, once a renowned whaling station, before arriving on the final day in Cape Town for a tour of the Mother City. Day 3Malelane – Swaziland
Full-day game viewing in the Kruger Park. Rejoin train in Malelane. Depart for Swaziland. Overnight at Mpaka.
Day 4Swaziland – Hluhluwe
Depart in vehicles from Mpaka, Swaziland. Visit Ngwenya Glass, Mbabane and Manzini. After border formalities at Mpaka, board the train and depart for Hluhluwe, South Africa.
Day 5Hluhluwe – Empangeni
Early morning and afternoon game drives in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park. Board train and depart for Empangeni.
Day 6St Lucia - Durban
Tour of the world-heritage site, St Lucia
(iSimangaliso) Wetland Park. Board the train and depart for Durban
Day 7Durban – Ladysmith
Disembark in Durban for a cultural visit to PheZulu Safari Village and uShaka Marine World. Return to train and depart for Ladysmith.
Day 8Ladysmith - Bloemfontein
Enjoy a battlefields tour taking in the Siege
Museum and Wagon Hill. Return to train for lunch and depart for Bloemfontein.
Day 9Bloemfontein – Kimberley
Afternoon tour of Bloemfontein including the
Women’s Memorial, Anglo Boer Museum and Oliewenhuis Art Museum (time permitting). Return to train and depart for Kimberley
Day 10Kimberley – Graaff Reinet
Visit to the Big Hole and Diamond Museum. Afternoon visit to the William Humphreys Art Gallery and McGregor Museum. Return to train and depart for Graaff Reinet.
Day 11Graaff Reinet - Oudtshoorn
Lunch is served on board. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Graaff Reinet. Return to train and depart for Oudtshoorn.
Visit the Cango Caves and an ostrich farm. Drive the Outeniqua Pass to rejoin train in George. Dinner at Fancourt Golf Estate.
Day 13Knysna – Ashton
Morning drive to Knysna with a lagoon ferry ride to Featherbed Nature Reserve OR enjoy shopping. Return to train for lunch and depart for Ashton.
Drive the scenic route to Hermanus (160km).
Return to train at Worcester for the overnight stop and farewell dinner.
Day 15Arrive Cape Town
Arrive Cape Town Station. Check out of train.
Luggage will be stored in the Rovos Rail Lounge. Tour of Cape Town: Company Gardens, Bo-Kaap, Waterfront, Diamond Works, District Six and Castle of Good Hope. Return to Cape Town Station. Tour ends.
