Explore some of Patagonia’s most stunning regions and UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites along the famous Route 40. There are many highlights on this journey, but the remote and captivating Marble Caves are unique. The tour also visits the petrified forest, Perito Moreno Glacier, Cave paintings and The Canyon of Pinturas. Furthermore, enjoy some time in the city of Buenos Aires.
On arrival at Buenos Aires Airport, you will be met and transferred to the HOTEL for your two night stay.
Day 2Buenos Aires
In the afternoon, you will be taken on a panoramic tour of the city. The tour will start in Plaza de Mayo and continue to the neighbourhood of La Boca and finish in Palermo and Recoleta. This evening, enjoy dinner with a tango show. (B)
Day 3Buenos Aires – Comodoro Rivadavia – Los Antiguos
After breakfast, you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Comodoro Rivadavia. On arrival, you will journey to Los Antiguos, a town near the border with Chile. En route there will be a picnic lunch stop at the Petrified Forest of José Ormachea and a short walk. In the afternoon, arrive at Los Antiguos, located on the coast of Lake Buenos Aires, the largest lake in South America after Titicaca. Two nights at your HOTEL. (B, L)
Day 4Los Antiguos – Marble Chapels – Los Antiguos
This morning, you will cross the border into Chile and journey the outline of Lake General Carreras through wooded vegetation. Once the bay is reached, you will embark on a sailing vessel to explore the curious formation of the Marble Chapels. This natural monument, formed by the erosion of water, is composed of three mineral formations of about 4 meters high: The Marble Cathedral, the Marble Chapel and the Marble Cave. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to Los Antiguos. (B, L)
IMPORTANT NOTE: Boat trip to the Marble Chapel is subject to weather conditions. If the boat trip needs to be taken from Puerto Tranquilo, the night in Los Antiguos might be replaced by a night in Chile Chico.
Day 5Los Antiguos - El Chaltén
After breakfast, you will depart from Los Antiguos towards Perito Moreno on Route 40 to the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site, De Las Manos Cave (Hands Cave). These ancient cave paintings make this the main archaeological site of Patagonia. You will enter the Canyon of Pinturas River journeying for a short time on foot. After a picnic lunch, the trip continues to El Chaltén or to Los Antiguos to board the night bus to El Chaltén where you will overnight on-board. (B, L)
Day 6El Chaltén
Today is at leisure to relax or you can sail Lake Viedma to admire the biggest glacier in Los Glaciares National Park. Alternatively there is an option to trek the Viedma Peninsula. Overnight at your HOTEL. (B)
Day 7El Chaltén – El Calafate
After breakfast, you will be taken on a walk along one of the paths of El Chaltén, along Torre Lagoon. Enjoy impressive views of Torre Hill, Adela Mountain Range, Solo Hill and its different glaciers. Three nights at your HOTEL. (B)
Day 8El Calafate
This morning you will be taken on a tour of the UNESCO Natural Heritage site of Perito Moreno Glacier, within Los Glaciares National Park. It is here you will see the glacier from different perspectives. There is an option to view the glacier on a sailboat cruise on the glacier lake. (B)
Day 9El Calafate
Today is at your leisure. (B)
Day 10El Calafate – Buenos Aires
This morning, you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires where you will be met and taken to your HOTEL for your overnight stay.
Day 11Buenos Aires
After breakfast, the day is at leisure until you are transferred to Buenos Aires Airport for your onward flight. (B)
