Classic Ecuador takes you through some of Ecuador’s best towns. Take a stroll through Quito admiring the cobblestone streets of the old town, ornate churches and pastel coloured houses. Learn about the traditional ways of the Otavalo people and visit the famous Otavalo market known for its textiles and traditional handicrafts. Continue on to explore the miraculous world of the Galapagos Islands on a 4 day cruise. Furthermore, guided by experienced naturalists, you will visit the archipelago’s famous sights; with a chance to swim with seals as well as sea turtles and schools of tropical fish.
On arrival at Quito airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Three nights at a superior HOTEL.
Today you will enjoy a tour of Quito’s colonial quarter which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll from Independence Plaza, to the main Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Building and the Archbishop’s Palace. Visit the Equatorial Monument, which marks the exact Middle of the World, (latitude 0º), where you can stand with a foot in each hemisphere. Visit the Ethnographic Museum inside the monument, before returning to your hotel. (B)
Day 3Quito – Otavalo – Quito
Today you will travel from Quito along the Pan American Highway, to the market of Otavalo. Visit the textile and vegetable markets and then continue on to Peguche. The village is also known for traditional Andean musical instruments, such as the large pan flutes, zamponas, quena flutes, drums and charangos. The local artisans will delight you, playing the instruments they manufacture. (B)
Day 4Quito – Galapagos Islands
Today you will fly from Quito to the Galapagos Islands to begin your cruise. Enjoy an afternoon excursion to one of the captivating islands followed by a welcome dinner on board. Three nights M/V LEGEND. (B, L, D)
Days 5 – 6Galapagos Islands
Two full days to discover the flora, fauna and landscape of the Galapagos Islands with morning and afternoon excursions daily. The excursions generally consist of snorkelling, swimming or an easy trail walk, whilst the wildlife that you can expect to see include frigate birds, blue footed boobies, land iguanas, penguins and marine iguanas. Each night on board the vessel, lectures are conducted by the naturalist guides to help you improve your knowledge of the islands. (B, L, D)
Day 7Galapagos Islands – Quito
After breakfast you will disembark and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Quito. Upon arrival at Quito you will be transferred to your HOTEL for the night. (B)
