There are so many highlights when travelling across India by train and the accommodation is no exception. Let us introduce you to luxury train travel in India, the Deccan Odyssey. After indulging in this experience, train travel will never be the same…

History

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) made the Deccan Odyssey dream a reality. In 2001, the initial proposal to launch a luxury train tour in the state of Maharashtra was made.  The MTDC and the Indian Railway Ministry signed an agreement the same year to turn this proposal into a reality.

The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) received the green light from the Railway Board to start the work on Deccan Odyssey in 2002. It took ICF members around five months to complete the design of this luxury rail in India. In late 2003 the Deccan Odyssey reached completion. The Deccan Odyssey boasts modern facilities in luxurious surrounds.

The famous Taj Group Hotels partnered with Deccan Odyssey to offer guests the 5 star hotel experience on board.

Cabin Features

The Deccan Odyssey features 21 coaches, 12 of which offer guest accommodation.  Each cabin is spacious and decorated to recreate the ancient cabins of the countrys’ Kings.  Facilities include air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and en-suite bathrooms delivering the utmost comfort during your journey. In addition, each coach has a personal butler and guests have 24/7 customer service. Furthermore, the panoramic windows allow you to experience the magnificence of India from the comfort of you private cabin.

The Deccan Odyssey offers two types of cabins; the presidential suite and the deluxe cabins. The presidential suite is the most luxurious suite of the train and can accommodate up to four guests. The deluxe cabins can accommodate two people and have either queen or twin beds.

The train features two restaurants on board, Peshwa I and Peshwa II that offer a multi-cuisine menu. The restaurant provides traditional Indian cuisine, continental cuisine as well as oriental cuisine, giving guests ample choice of their meals throughout the day.
